zharava
"zharava" (in bulgarian) or "embers" is my first riso zine. the text comes from a poem i wrote years ago when i was studying the bulgarian liberation revolutionary movement. this short comic is the introduction to a bigger original story surrounding my characters, who are revolutionaries in 1860s-1870s bulgaria. i plan to turn it into a full-length comic in the future

slice of life comic, part of the watchdogs universe and larger story. it depicts a random day of three friends, learning to navigate life after escaping their past. as children, they were given to an underground fighting ring as repayment of their families’ debts. they were raised not only to fight, but also to be trained bodyguards and hitmen for the same crime syndicate. in the comic they are already out and are living together in a shared apartment.

a sequel to beware of the plague, it spreads. i wanted to give myself and the story a hopeful future to aspire to. while it still includes themes of addiction, mental illness and derealization, what you dream of when you sleep the plague away is proof of light for anyone looking for it

the gentle spiral (adaptation from yordan radichkov’s short story)
i was first introduced to the gentle spiral in high school through the literary curriculum. while i had been aware of, and absolutely adored, radichkov’s work, this particular story surprised me. not that it was unlike his other writing, but it seemed more tangible and raw.
